Firearms Design

Complying with Domestic Regulation of Firearms Designs

Restricting the types of small arms that may be owned by the American public, and therefore defining the market for firearms design for inventors and manufacturers the world over are various laws and regulations, particularly the National Firearms Act (“NFA”) and the Gun Control Act (“GCA”). Under these statutes and other rules and regulations - most of which may not be long for this world in light of recent Constitutional jurisprudence - a host of different criteria must be met for small arms of different types to be legally owned and employed by American citizens.

As comprehensive as these laws and those like them are, there is often room for the creative and enterprising innovator to increase performance with a new firearms design that would not at first appear to be feasible. Just a few examples of this kind of American pluck and ingenuity in recent years are non-NFA items like the Mossberg Shockwave, Remington TAC-14, and the Dark Storm Industries DS-15 series of firearms.

As the recognized expert on the design and development of the original AR-pattern firearm - the ArmaLite AR-10 - the Managing Attorney knows not only the law pertaining to firearms inside and out, but understands the design components and functioning of small arms in a way that few others do. Therefore, he can assist you substantively in every step of the process from planning the design of a new firearm that complies with the relevant laws and regulations, and take you all the way through applying for and attaining approval from the ATF for sale of your invention to the people!
