The Firm’s Managing Attorney

The Managing Attorney conducting grueling and laborious research into small arms regulatory compliance and intellectual property; a tough job, but someone has to step up and do it!

Joseph Putnam Evans is the founder and Managing Attorney of The Law Office of Joseph P. Evans, PLC. In the legal field, Joe has been blessed with some of the best and rarest opportunities to gain experience, serving a full two-year term as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Pauline Newman at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and working as an associate at an elite boutique law firm in the DC area.

Beyond his legal experience, Joe is a recognized world expert in small arms, first known from the publication of his work The ArmaLite AR-10: World’s Finest Battle Rifle - which was when published, and remains today, the original and singular scholarly work on the invention, design, history, development, production, deployment, and use of the AR-10, a firearms design which not only continues to be extremely popular and common today, but is the basis on which both the most popular civilian sporting and defensive rifles, and the most successful military rifles of today are designed. Joe has also been published nationally in the journal format on the topics of small arms law and firearms history.

Outside of the legal and small arms fields, the Managing Attorney is an avid learner of foreign languages, being fluent and literate in (in addition to English) Chinese. He is also an alpinist, amateur dendrologist and gardener, rancher/homesteader, and most of all (except for being a husband and father, of course) has been a die-hard fisherman since the age of three. In addition to catching trophy examples of many species of game fish, both setting a State and IGFA World Record; both for the rarest and most difficult-to-catch species of trout in North America.

The Managing Attorney endeavors to live an adventurous and well-examined life. Interested in finding out about his unique background in the small arms industry, his language skills, or his adventures as an alpinist and wilderness angler?
